I was told by the racetrack in Vegas that lets you drive exotic cars that the reason they don't have any Ferraris is because Ferrari has a policy of not selling to non-rich people. They want Ferrari to be an exclusive experience for the rich only so they won't sell the racetrack that lets anyone drive one.

(don't know if that was in the article as I can't read it)

I think a lot of what he says makes sense, but I think I know why the truck salesman was trying to upsell him. This guy is rich. He talks about having a Ferrari. If he recently went to buy a Ford truck, he probably pulled up to the dealership driving a nice car. The salesman would have seen that and figured that he should sell him a pricey truck. He probably also figured that this guy was not looking to just buy any old truck. Most rich dudes would want the high end ones, and would be fine waiting to get the right model.

Obviously that doesn't excuse not listening to the customer. But it gives a sense of why he might have been focusing on getting this guy just the right truck, not just trying to sell him the one red one they had.
