I'm Roni Bhakta, a full stack developer from India focused on building open source, production grade systems that empower communities and solve real world problems. I operate across Python, the MERN stack, and cloud native tooling (Docker, Kubernetes), and GenAI (LLMs, LangChain, embeddings, vector search, RAG), with hands on experience designing, shipping, and operating reliable services at scale.
I currently serve as a Junior Software Developer (contract) with Internet Archive's Open Library team, following my successful Google Summer of Code 2025 fellowship. I own backend architecture and API design for Lenny, an open source digital lending system for libraries, build Open Library's batch import pipeline, and enable OPDS (Open Publication Distribution System) feeds. I work end to end: system design, implementation, CI/CD, observability, and integration with Open Library.
As a 2025 GSoC Fellow with Open Library, I co-created Lenny with Michael E. Karpeles (Mek) and continue as a long term maintainer and stakeholder. I also built the Lenny‑app sandbox and documentation platform and support the PRS (Public Readium Service for Internet Archive) project to enable secure, global e book lending.
Beyond Internet Archive, my open source journey includes contributions to Internet Health Report, Open Library (11M+ users), and the broader Internet Archive ecosystem (100M+ users). I care about correctness, performance, and operability, APIs with clear contracts, tested, observable, and cost aware. I'm always open to impactful collaborations, let's build accessible, open knowledge infrastructure together!
